About this place
The National Museum of Korea in Yongsan is the largest museum in Korea and one of the top ten museums in the world by visitor numbers, housing over 420,000 artifacts including 60 national treasures and 80 treasures spanning from the Paleolithic era to the Joseon Dynasty. Its landmark "Room of Contemplation," opened in 2021, presents two iconic gilt-bronze Seated Bodhisattva statues in a meditative, immersive setting that has become one of Seoul's most talked-about cultural experiences. The expansive outdoor grounds display large stone pagodas, lanterns, and sculptures too monumental to exhibit indoors. Admission to the permanent galleries is free, and the museum is easily accessible via subway (Ichon Station, Line 4/Gyeongui-Jungang Line).
